Bradfield Ringing Course

Venue

Bradfield College, founded as a boys' boarding school in 1850, has also admitted girls into the Sixth Form since 1989 and full co-education throughout the school was introduced in September 2005. Bradfield College is located in the heart of Bradfield village in Berkshire, a few miles from the M4.  For more information on Bradfield, try www.bradfield-parish.co.uk

Accommodation

While some twin rooms are available for couples, most course members are accommodated in single rooms.  Some of the rooms have an ensuite shower room, but those that don't are equipped with a washbasin, and there are ample showers and toilets along the corridors. These may be shared between several rooms, so you might wish to bring a dressing gown and slippers.

All linen, duvets and one pillow are supplied but you will need to bring your own soap, toothpaste, towels, and extra pillows if you prefer them. All the rooms have beds (not bunk beds) and the majority of the sleeping accommodation is on the first floor or above. Some of the houses are up to four stories - no ladders but certainly a few stairs - so please make sure you let us know if you need to be on a lower floor.

We ask that you bear in mind that Bradfield College is a school, not a hotel. The rooms are sparsely furnished study-bedrooms only - some are in new blocks and others in older buildings - and they all have their own particular personalities. The great majority of people don't find it a problem, but if you think you'll be unhappy in a room falling short of luxury, this isn't the course for you!

Please do not bring valuable items as there are no locks on the bedroom doors; due to the Heath and Safety needs of the college.

Damage and Loss

Bellringers tend to be safe and careful people, but if you do cause damage to the school or its equipment, you will be personally liable for it.

We will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to your own belongings during the course.

Finding Your Away Around

On arrival at the course, you will be provided with the course "Helping You Get Around Guide" which includes a map of all the school buildings and grounds, as well as information about all of the practical, optional and social sessions available.

Food and Drink

The food provided at Bradfield College is generally considered to be very good.  Vegetarian options are always available and special diets will be catered for if notified in advance. All meals are self-service, as are the coffee, tea and biscuits served mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

The nearest Public House is 1.5 miles away in the next village, however we host a special Late Lounge for those who wish to participate in a sociable atmosphere - with or without a glass in their hand.  Please supply your own alcoholic drinks and your own glass.

For those that prefer a quieter evening, the Cocoa and Chat Room offers hot drinks and a very large range of fruit juices, along with tables and chairs for sharing your experiences with fellow ringers.

Other Facilities

The school has very pleasant grounds and a swimming pool available on a limited basis.

Due to the college staff being on holiday, we cannot guarantee that all facilities mentioned in the Bradfield Brochure or on the Bradfield Website will be available during the course.

Vacating Your Room

Many of the Houses have to be prepared for the next residents, so vacating your room will be different in each house and the needs of the cleaning teams. The details will be in the course handbook when you arrive.
